Karakol

Although this is a frequent stop for travellers to Kyrgyzstan, no matter if they come from Bishkek or Kazakhstan, this small city is famous as a hub for (alpine) trekking and skiing destinations. I got the impression that the city has a lot of potential. Lake Issyk Köl is nearby and all sorts of touristic activities can be organized here, often without any prior booking. There are also many colonial Soviet buildings to see, dispersed in the tree-lined streets. In some places you can also find real espresso coffee (just follow the tourists…), and all kinds of beers. My best moment was however in the evening, walking in the parks and places and just watching people meet and have fun and go on with their seemingly worriless lives.
